T.-Teaching Dispositions
Teacher candidates will foster a caring and professional relationship with students that focus on acceptance and their educational needs.
Artifact #1- Philosophy of Education Rationale: I wrote this Philosophy of Education paper in my Education 1010 class in the spring semester of 2011. This paper focuses on my philosophies that will foster a caring and professional relationship with students. It is my goal, that as a teacher I will focus on acceptance and my student's educational needs. In my Philosophy of Education paper, I explain different ways of approaching lessons so that the maximum number of students can have their educational needs fulfilled. For example, I talk about how students not only need to see a rhythm written out in note values, but need to also hear the rhythm clapped out for them. In addition to these two ways of familiarizing students with note values, I express that it is important to have the students clap the rhythm out loud themselves. Everybody learns a different way. If those different ways can be identified, educational needs are more readily met.

Artifact #2Rationale for why the artifact shows experience in leadership, service, PLC/collaboration, caring, or community building:
It takes a leader to teach. Being a music teacher also requires multiple other qualities. Music often opens up multiple service opportunities. If the teacher is not willing to offer service, they deny their students of learning this quality. Being a music teacher also requires collaboration. We must collaborate with many people including our students, their parents, other teachers, performing venues, accompanists and district officials. If we do not encompass these needed qualities, we are not accomplishing our job as a teacher. This video is a sample of two of the essential qualities. Conducting in front of a group is an example of leadership. I also chose this particular video to act as my artifact because in this video, I am volunteering my time to be at this concert. It was above and beyond the requirements for my schooling for me to attend. Service is a quality that can make or break a music program. So it is important to me that I showcase my support and belief in giving service. |
