E.-Effective Pedagogy
Teacher candidates can create effective and meaningful instruction and assessments for all students based on required subject matter knowledge, state content standards, curriculum goals, and use of technology.
Artifact #1The following attachments are a Unit Plan designed during my student teaching experience at Pine View High School. This Unit Plan is designed for AP Music Theory and is entitled AP Music Theory Exam Prep. The purpose of this Unit is to help the students become aware of how the AP Exam is formatted, how much time is given for each section, and how each section could best be approached. This entire spring semester has been one giant review and preparation period for the test. My mentor teacher covered all the material at least once during the fall semester so that the spring could serve as the review. When I asked my mentor teacher what the students needed to spend the most time on, he told me formatting, timing, and testing approach. This unit covers exactly those things.

The following two attachments as well as the paragraph below explain the scoring process (rubrics) of the different sections of the AP Test:
The Multiple Choice Section has one right answer so no rubric is
needed. However, a key is provided in the instructor copy of the released practice exams. A key was made on a Scantron and the Multiple Choice section was scored from this key for each students. You can see the scores for this section in Effective Pedagogy Artifact #2 - student testing scores data. The results from the students pre- and post tests are listed in the document below:
Were the students proficient? Why or why not?Based on their post test scores, all students were proficient. Taking into consideration that most colleges/universities will start excepting AP Scores as "passing" with a grade of 3, all 8 students scored within the 3, 4 or 5 range on the post test they were given. All students improved their scores from the pre-test to the post test, this is also another sign of proficiency. Students also became more comfortable talking about music theory out loud during class, before the unit, some would not even raise their hands to answer a question. However, by the end of the unit I could randomly call on any student and they would attempt to answer my questions.
